The presenter will discuss developmentally appropriate activities for various age groups and can include hands-on activities with or without children. William Wilson, Retired Faculty Target Audiences: HS (9-12th), AG, genealogical societies, historical societies From Wool to Clothing In this time of great technological advances, children do not always understand how hard it was for a family to provide for their day to day needs like having material for clothing before 1900's. This presentation/demo will cover the different types of sheep and their wool fibers (samples will be provided), how it was cleaned and prepared for spinning, spinning techniques (demo on drop spindle and a spinning wheel), how fiber was naturally dyed and how it would have been woven into fabric. Presentation can be tailored to match subject interest, time period and age group. Find out other benefits as well as the opportunities for involvement and leadership development at Southwestern Illinois College. After the "curtain" closes, we'll strike the set by putting our newspaper costumes into the recycle box. This workshop focuses on the fun of reading, the joy of imagination and creativity, and the satisfaction that comes with a good group effort. Note: additional adult helpers may be needed for large groups or young children.

R.A.D. - Rape Aggression Defense for Women The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. The training is a 13-hour (one day) session which requires a one-month advanced notice. Minimum group size is ten. Ages 12-17 must have parental consent and a parent in attendance. Please contact the Speakers Bureau for scheduling information. Sgt. Christie Stennett, Public Safety Cpl. Bryan Whitaker, Public Safety Target Audiences: HS, AG (women only) radKIDS - Personal Empowerment Safety Education This program is a 10-hour family-centered safety education program that emphasizes essential decision-making skills as well as physical resistance options to escape violence.
